Según leo en la prensa, Zaragoza albergará la primera edición de Innovate!Europe, la versión europea de la feria de tecnología emergente DEMO.
Entre los expositores de la recién celebrada DEMO@15! veo varias empresas de software privativo, pero ninguna de software libre. Confío en que la versión local sea mejor en este aspecto.
Por otra parte, la organización Greenpeace ha anunciado que ha migrado el 98% de sus escritorios a GNU/Linux.
Esta migración había sido presentada en abril de 2003 en la Universidad de Las Palmas. Durante estos dos años, han ido sustituyendo gradualmente el software privativo que usaban por alternativas libres, en tres fases:
- Sustitución del navegador y el cliente de correo MS Internet Explorer y MS Outlook por Mozilla Firefox y Mozilla Thunderbird
- Formación de los usuarios, y sustitución de las aplicaciones ofimáticas, pasando de MS Office a OpenOffice.org
- Sustitución de los sistemas operativos MS Windows por Ubuntu GNU/Linux
Me gustaría conocer el status quo del Ayuntamiento de Zaragoza en esta cuestión, y sus planes para el futuro. Recordemos que ambos anunciaron hacia el mismo tiempo su propósito de moverse hacia el software libre. El concejal de Ciencia y Tecnología impartió conferencias sobre el tema, tanto en la Universidad de Zaragoza (Zaragoza, ¿capital europea de Linux?) como en el Congreso Hispalinux (Zaragoza y el software libre. Sería interesante comparar, dos años después, lo hecho por unos y por otros.
